WPI Gauges

The WPI gauge helps determine the thickness of yarn. Wrap the yarn tightly around the measurement area, making sure the wraps don’t overlap. Count how many wraps fit within one inch. The result indicates the yarn’s thickness: the more wraps, the thinner the yarn. The gauge can also be used by comparing the yarn to the thickness of the lines on the gauge.
